Q: What is Ludicrous?
A: Ludicrous is a fast paced side-scrolling multiplayer shooter for the PC. The story takes time in the near future, when mankind tries to defend Earth from a cyborg attackers.
Q: Side-scrolling?
A: Yes, side-scrolling (have a look at Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Side-scrolling_video_game). A lot of gamers out there grew up with side scrollers, like Super Mario, Metroid and more. And it’s still a lot of fun to play them today, so the decision was made create a fast paced mutliplayer sidescroller.
Q: Is the game free?
A: Yes and no. The basic version of Ludicrous will be free to play against bots and in the local network. You can get it directly from our site. If you’re going to play the full version, you’ll get access to much more goodies. You’ll get persistent player stats and ranks, ladders and much more and the possibility to play over the internet.
Q: What’s the basic gameplay?
A: Ludicrous is a classic old-school shooter with 3D graphics, but 2D movement. You’ll run around in the levels, pick up your weapon of choice and eliminate all enemies around you. You’ll get some special abilities (which we call boosts) by killing your foes, like double kill, which deals the double amount of damage, and others.
Q: What game modes will be available?
A: So far, the game will feature classic deathmatch, team deathmatch and capture the flag. All three modes will have an instagib option too.
Q: Do I have to use stats and ranks?
A: It depends on the server host, who can enable or disable stats uploading. If you want to use stats and ranks, you’ll need to create an account.
Q: What is the release date, and how much will the full version cost?
A: Ludicrous will be available in the middle of 2010 for digital download. It will debut with a price of $20 (USD). It will be available on our site, as well as various other digital distributors.
Q: How will I find servers with people who have the same skill as me?
A: Depending on your game stats, the game will calculate your personal skill index (you’ll need an account for that). When you browse for servers, you can set a mask to find servers where the average skill index is close to yours. Server hosts will be able to set a minimum and maximum skill level for their servers.
Q: How do ranks work?
A: By killing other people or by achieving the levels’ goals, you’ll gain experience points. Depending on your experience points, you reach certain ranks. Depending on your rank, the game will enable certain options for you (like alternative weapon fire or boosts). But it’s up to the server host, if he enables the ranking system or not.
Q: My firewall blocks the game during startup!
A: The game contacts our RPC (Remote Procedure Call) service at ludicrous.eu to check for updates and to login into your stats and ranks account (if you have one). If you decide to block the game, it will not work correctly.
Q: Will there be some sort of single player available?
A: You’ll be able to play against bots. There are currently no plans to create a single player campaign.
Q: Will there be a Mac or Linux version?
A: We’re currently working to port the game over to the Mac. A native linux version won’t be available.
Q: Can players mod the game?
A: There’s no direct way to mod the game directly, but you’ll get the level editor, so you’ll be able to create your own levels and share them with other players.
Q: Will the game be released in other countries?
A: The game will be released as digital download, so you’ll be able to get it from everywhere in the world.
Q: What languages are available?
A: Initially, the game will be available in English. Depending on the demand of the users, we’ll translate the game to other languages.
