The Cyborg-Human war
Nearing the end of the 21st century, the successful Project: Golden Age initiative became the sole order of Humanity. Using the materials gathered by billions of cyborg miners on asteroids in our solar system, there were enough resources to build the necessary production facilities to support the new order, and the reconstruction of urban areas also began to reshape not just the social and logistic structure of Humanity, but the lifestyle, environment and culture as well.
The Mars project also showed great progress during this time:
Hundreds of minor and seventy major colonies were established during the past decades, which ever since of their foundation were prepared for the arrival of the future colonists, “the New Generation”.
Due to the terraforming process the outside environment is slowly transformed to Earth-like (it is expected to reach a state in which a human can go outside of the colonies to the open environment without protection suit within fifty years, approximately in the year 2148). The magnetosphere was already artificially reconstructed and is maintained ever since. Pressure nearly reaches Earth standards. The atmosphere is still not breathable but already a great amount of unnecessary components were removed or exchanged. The climate is becoming more suitable with every passing day.
As of yet, no human has set foot on Mars, even if the colonies could already support millions of colonists in total. Marcus Stronberg (the founding father and visionary of the Mars project) decided that colonists will have to wait until the 22nd century to mark a completely new age of Humanity, even according to the commonly used calendar. The construction of the colony ship that will transfer the colonists from Earth to Mars was already started and was near completion those days.
The first group of humans were planned to start their transfer at the 1st of January in 2100 and will arrive to and settle on Mars approximately four months later. Two transfers will reach Mars in the year 2100, the first two waves of “the New Generation”, three hundred thousand colonists in total.
Everything was in order until the 19th day of August in 2098, “the Last day of the Golden Age”, on which day at 17:43 GMT a tragic accident occurred at the main (largest) cyborg production facility of Triangle Cybernetics. A series of events lead to several monumental explosions, resulting in the escape of humongous amount of tritelate-atexonate, which gas-compound has the side effect of effectively eliminating the ozone shield at a rate of 1240:1 to the disadvantage of ozone. The escaped tritelate-atexonate quickly reached the higher atmosphere and started to destruct the ozone shield within hours. Thereafter it spread to the other regions of the atmosphere and continued it’s devastation. Within months Earth’s ozone shield was reduced to about five to seven percent of original value, resulting in devastating cosmic rays and solar radiation reaching the surface, effecting every form of life and the environment.
As the factory was planned with the highest standard safety and security regulations in mind, an investigation team was immediately assembled to uncover the case. It was proven early that the accident was not a result of sabotage or terror act, but the exact reasons were completely uncovered only three months after the accident. The conclusion was that an unlikely chain of events occurred (for most, one or a few humans were responsible) resulting in the accident. None of the events directly lead to the accident itself, only granted one or a few other events the possibility to progress further. As no one personally was responsible for the events, and as the deviations from standard procedures did not exceeded beyond regulations, no one was held responsible for the events nor the accident in general and the final conclusion was that the accident was the result of an unlucky constellation of events.
Two billion people died within two months after Earth’s ozone shield was weakened and further billions were threatened by the intense rays and radiation. The colony ship which was planned to transfer colonists to Mars was now used to evacuate as many humans as possible. The first transfer took place on the 7th of December, 2098. Instead of randomly selecting who will be taken, corporate leadership of Triangle Cybernetics made the decisions. Key people were selected who will be required for the survival of Humanity. The colony ship was en route to Mars when it met the incoming flood of the cyborgs, originating from the asteroid areas of our solar system. The cyborgs immediately invaded the ship, leaving no one alive. The people on board only had enough time to transmit a short video message about the situation before their elimination.
At first it seemed unbelievable that it is really happening what the message suggest, but regardless of the probability, Earth’s defense forces were put on the highest alert condition. The cyborg invaders arrived within a week and flooded Earth. They did not bring nuclear nor biological weapons with them, just used their superior numbers and brute force. Billions of cyborgs arrived and even if a great amount of them were destroyed, their numbers did not decrease as they were continuously arriving from the asteroid areas. The last major city has fallen within six months and the rest of the planet followed within additional eight months.
No one knew who was responsible for the attack of the cyborgs until the continuously repeated message of Marcus Stronberg from Mars:
“This is Marcus Stronberg from Uteogeenia, the Holy Capital of Armankus (the planet you call Mars). The unclean human race and the planet it was originated from is being destroyed as I speak. You may wonder about the reasons why this is happening… quite simple: There is no place for you in a perfect world. You only bring death, pain, hatred and jealousy. Arrogance and selfishness is your sin, and as you are the bringer of doom for the entire universe, there is no other future for you then execution.
I am very aware that you are so full of yourselves that you don’t understand my reasons, but when we will manage to reach distant stars and will colonize the countless number of galaxies, in the end I will see the perfectness of my creation and the correctness of the path I’ve chosen; while if I would let you, insane humans spread, I would only find wasted resources, pointless segregation and unclean selfishness all over the universe, but nothing better, nothing clean, nothing that is more then itself.
I didn’t ever really hated you personally, but don’t be blinded by Project: Golden Age! Whatever we were able to accomplish was just a false impression, a mirage; the result of excluding those humans who were counter to the result we wanted to accomplish. The same way as we excluded them, will exclude Humanity from the much greater plan, as you are unable to cooperate. I showed you how it works and you agreed with it during the Golden Age, now you must face the truce about yourselves as well and either if you accept it or not… you will be excluded from the greater plan in which you have no purpose.
Most of you only embraced Project: Golden Age because it has brought safety, security and wealth for you; not because you agreed with it, aside of your selfish life sustaining reasons. Humans always were and always be animals, with the sole motive of sustaining their lives and filling their needs, and even when you love you do it for the same reason… or for an even worse reason, because you are too weak not to love, as it is shameful. Be honest with yourself in the final hour of your life, you never really cared for anyone at all. Now, you may understand my reasons.
A new race will born soon from the genetic code I and the others under my lead created, the perfect race Humanity could never become. A race of magnificence, glory and wisdom, who will live and rule for eternity.
We leave the unholy past behind and let it be destroyed by the forces of the cosmos and our angels the cyborgs, the bringers and executors of our perfect will. But to not let you die without hope, I share you our great vision so you can die with joy, foreseeing the future of the universe; as those who are perfect and deserve to live will live forever and form the galaxy into something greater, the home of the eternals. I let you leave with this joyful vision which we will accomplish… perfection.
